Today it’s done –  and I had it actually nearly forgotten – I am exactly one year long nonsmoker 😃

I don’t want to say much more about this topic, because it really doesn’t mean anything to me anymore (except the fact to be free at last of course), so just a few final thoughts that helped me. The story of my becoming a non-smoker can also be read here, here and here. Of course this is not necessarily universal, because everyone thinks they smoke for different reasons, but in the end it is only addiction and fear that keeps us smoking.

Get yourself a mantra

Think about what you don’t like about smoking and write it down bluntly. Write yourself a letter, so to speak. Write this letter best one morning after a night of celebration in which you have smoked too much, your lungs are still burning, you feel like you have pebbles in your lungs and your hair, yesterday’s clothes and bedding stink of cold smoke.

My mantra is like this:

Remember that!

The fear of racing heartbeat!
The feeling of not being able to swallow properly!
Not being able to breathe freely!
The pressure on the temples!
The feeling of a tied breast!
Be exhausted from doing nothing!
To always be tired!
The always dry mouth!
Brownish lumpy snot!
Be a slave to an intoxicant!
Never be free!

Don’t touch her! I BEG YOU! You know what you’re doing! THIS IS A MOMENT AND YOU WILL BE LAUGHED IN 5 MINUTES WITH YOUR SELF ABOUT THE FINAL ZIGARETTE, THE NICOTINE AND THE INDEPENDENCE!

Yeah, I know it sounds a little polemic and trite. But it helped me in many situations where the smoker in my head wanted me to forget all this and whispered to me to smoke.

Don’t get too restricted

You like to go to the pub to watch football or do other things where you get in touch with smokers? You like to drink a beer or the obligatory coffee and always smoked with it?

Do it anyway! You will see that all this without cigarettes is not only not less relaxing and beautiful, but even more relaxing and enjoyable! Do not restrict yourself in what you do, except smoking cigarettes of course – but that is not a restriction but a liberation!

With me the first 10 days were really bad (yes, really bad!). Not that I had pain or real withdrawal symptoms, but the restlessness and feeling of emptiness were quite hard to bear (the mantra helped).

After these 10 days everything was fine in my case, it was no problem to resist the thought of a cigarette and soon all thoughts of a cigarette were gone.

If you want to become a non-smoker

Whether it’s only 5, 10 or maybe even 20 days with you – nobody knows. But if you are convinced from your head that you no longer want to smoke, then that is no problem, because you can enjoy your life as a non-smoker from the very beginning!
